  1. “How unprofessional”?!
More like how clueless can one person be. I remember my early days in freelancing (given it up long time ago) when clients used to ask me to work for cheap.

One shoe store owner for whom I was a short-lived)window dresser for was the cheapest person I’d ever worked with, expecting me to create great works of art for his windows for less, like I had my own personal art supply store in my basement!
To cut a long story short, he fired me without warning or notice when I asked for more money to create these grandiose art works that he wanted and placed my job in a posting where I first saw it.
But in the end, he ended up closing up his store and today it’s a dental office. Now every time I pass by the place, I smile broadly and have long since become a firm believer in poetic justice. 🙂

    • I was just about to say something like that, but you beat me to it.

Maybe you should ask the client what they do and ask how they felt if someone wanted their work and promised it would benefit their business even if they weren’t paid for it.
